Word by Word

śhrī-bhagavān uvācha Lord Krishna said
asanśhayam undoubtedly
mahā-bāho mighty-armed one
manaḥ the mind
durnigraham difficult to restrain
chalam restless
abhyāsena by practice
tu but
kaunteya Arjun, the son of Kunti
vairāgyeṇa by detachment
cha and
gṛihyate can be controlled
Simplified Perspective

Krishna speaks a truth the seeker's heart already knows: the mind is wild, untamed, like a horse that has never felt the bridle. Yet do not despair—for the very restlessness you feel is the fire that can forge your liberation.

Through *abhyasa*, the devoted return to practice again and again, and through *vairagya*, the gentle release of what was never yours to keep, the mind becomes still not through force but through understanding. In our modern life, this means showing up to your meditation cushion or your inner work not because you expect perfection, but because you trust the mathematics of small, humble returns.
