Chapter 2 · Verse 69 · Sankhya Yoga
Bhagavad Gita 2.69
Sanskrit
या निशा सर्वभूतानां तस्यां जागर्ति संयमी। यस्यां जाग्रति भूतानि सा निशा पश्यतो मुनेः।।2.69।।
Transliteration
yā niśhā sarva-bhūtānāṁ tasyāṁ jāgarti sanyamī yasyāṁ jāgrati bhūtāni sā niśhā paśhyato muneḥ
Word by Word
What the world calls wakefulness—the constant chatter of desire, fear, and ego—is darkness to the sage. In that darkness, the self-disciplined yogi remains luminously awake, rooted in truth beyond the senses.
Meanwhile, what the sage recognizes as the night of illusion, all creatures mistake for daylight, lost in the dream of becoming. When you stop seeking validation in the world's noise and turn your attention inward to your own eternal witness, you begin to see clearly what most people sleep through their entire lives.
