Word by Word

hataḥ slain
or
prāpsyasi you will attain
swargam celestial abodes
jitvā by achieving victory
or
bhokṣhyase you shall enjoy
mahīm the kingdom on earth
tasmāt therefore
uttiṣhṭha arise
kaunteya Arjun, the son of Kunti
yuddhāya for fight
kṛita-niśhchayaḥ with determination
Simplified Perspective

Krishna cuts through Arjuna's paralysis with the logic of dharma: there is no loss in righteous action, only gain. Whether you fall in battle or claim victory, your duty returns you to the divine—one through sacrifice, one through rulership.

Both paths lead home. In our modern hesitation and overthinking, we too are frozen between two choices; this verse asks us to move forward with integrity, knowing that committed action aligned with our values cannot diminish our spirit.
