Bhagavad Gita 2.30

empowering Self & Identity Fear & Courage Jnana & Wisdom

Sanskrit

Transliteration

dehī nityam avadhyo ’yaṁ dehe sarvasya bhārata tasmāt sarvāṇi bhūtāni na tvaṁ śhochitum arhasi

Word by Word

Simplified Perspective

The atman—the eternal witness within each body—cannot be destroyed by any weapon or circumstance; it is immortal by nature, untouched by the mortality of flesh. This is not mere philosophy but the direct realization that what you truly are transcends birth and death entirely.

When you remember this truth about yourself and all beings, grief loses its grip because you recognize that nothing essential is ever lost. In our modern confusion about identity and loss, this verse invites us to stop anchoring our sense of self in the temporary and to wake up to what endures.
