Chapter 1 · Verse 46 · Arjuna Visada Yoga
Bhagavad Gita 1.46
Sanskrit
Transliteration
yadi mām apratīkāram aśhastraṁ śhastra-pāṇayaḥ dhārtarāṣhṭrā raṇe hanyus tan me kṣhemataraṁ bhavet
Word by Word
Arjuna has reached the depths of despair, where he imagines that surrender and non-resistance might be preferable to the burden of righteous action. Yet this very thought reveals the trap of the ego seeking escape through passivity—a false peace masquerading as wisdom.
The Gita will soon show us that true peace comes not from avoiding duty, but from performing it with complete detachment and surrender to the Divine Will. When we face our own impossible situations, we must recognize that running from responsibility, or hoping someone else will decide for us, is merely another form of delusion.
