Chapter 1 · Verse 33 · Arjuna Visada Yoga
Bhagavad Gita 1.33
Sanskrit
Transliteration
yeṣhām arthe kāṅkṣhitaṁ no rājyaṁ bhogāḥ sukhāni cha ta ime ’vasthitā yuddhe prāṇāṁs tyaktvā dhanāni cha
In plain words
You are caught between two loves—the people you want to protect and the life you want to preserve. But the lesson here: the ones you are clinging to, trying to save from loss, are already offering you everything—their presence, their sacrifice, their willingness to change. Your job is not to control the outcome or cling to how things should be; it is to see what love is actually asking of you right now, and to answer it.
Word by Word
Arjuna stands at the threshold of a profound teaching: those for whom we desire kingdoms, pleasures, and comforts now stand before us ready to surrender their very lives. This is not a moment of lamentation but a mirror held up to the illusion of our desires—we chase external gains while those we love are willing to offer everything.
The spiritual truth here cuts deeper than Arjuna's grief: attachment to worldly rewards blinds us to the sacred duty that calls, and only by releasing our grip on outcomes can we act with clarity and love.
