Chapter 2 · Verse 44 · Sankhya Yoga
Bhagavad Gita 2.44
Sanskrit
Transliteration
bhogaiśwvarya-prasaktānāṁ tayāpahṛita-chetasām vyavasāyātmikā buddhiḥ samādhau na vidhīyate
Word by Word
When the mind becomes intoxicated with sensory pleasures and worldly power, it loses the clarity needed to perceive truth. The intellect that is scattered among desires cannot achieve samadhi—that unshakeable absorption in the Self where all wisdom blooms.
Krishna speaks this not as judgment, but as a mirror: he shows us that attachment itself is the thief of inner peace. In your own life, notice how each small craving pulls your awareness outward; the practice is to return to what truly matters.
