Word by Word

na neither
tat that
bhāsayate illumine
sūryaḥ the sun
na nor
śhaśhāṅkaḥ the moon
na nor
pāvakaḥ fire
yat where
gatvā having gone
na never
nivartante they return
tat that
dhāma abode
paramam supreme
mama mine
Simplified Perspective

Krishna reveals the supreme abode that transcends all light — the sun cannot illumine it, the moon cannot reach it, fire cannot touch it. This is the eternal home of consciousness itself, beyond all material radiance and temporal change.

When a soul reaches this paramam dhama through sincere devotion and wisdom, it never returns to the cycle of becoming and unbecoming. In your own spiritual journey, recognize that true fulfillment lies not in chasing the bright distractions of the world, but in turning inward to the luminous stillness that needs no external light.
