Sanskrit

Transliteration

tataḥ sa vismayāviṣhṭo hṛiṣhṭa-romā dhanañjayaḥ praṇamya śhirasā devaṁ kṛitāñjalir abhāṣhata

Word by Word

tataḥ then
saḥ he
vismaya-āviṣhṭaḥ full of wonder
hṛiṣhṭa-romā with hair standing on end
dhanañjayaḥ Arjun, the conqueror of wealth
praṇamya bow down
śhirasā with (his) head
devam the Lord
kṛita-añjaliḥ with folded hands
abhāṣhata he addressed
Simplified Perspective

In this sacred moment, Arjuna's entire being trembles with the direct encounter of the Divine—his rational mind dissolves, his body responds with spontaneous awe, his heart recognizes what the intellect cannot contain. This is bhakti in its rawest form: not intellectual belief, but the soul's involuntary response to Truth standing before it.

When we encounter the sacred in our own lives—whether through loss, grace, or sudden clarity—we too may find our defenses crumble and our deepest self bow down in recognition of something vastly greater than our small self.
