If you use our music without authorization on YouTube, your content will be subject to copyright claims and strikes.

Copyright Strikes

What They Are:
Formal copyright violations issued when you use our music without permission.
Consequences:
  • First Strike: 1-week upload freeze, loss of features
  • Second Strike: 2-week upload freeze, extended restrictions
  • Third Strike: Channel permanently terminated
Strikes expire after 90 days, but violations remain on record.
 

II. What happens when you use our music

Scenario 1: Content ID Claim (Automatic)

If you upload a video using Mahakatha's music:
  1. Immediate detection – Content ID identifies our audio
  1. Claim issued – Video remains live, but:
      • All ad revenue redirected to Mahakatha
      • Video may be blocked in certain countries
      • Monetization disabled for your channel on that video
  1. No strike initially – This is an automatic claim, not a manual strike (yet)
You Cannot:
  • Monetize the video
  • Earn revenue from ads
  • Use the video commercially
Your Options:
  • Remove the video immediately
  • Replace the audio with authorized music
  • DO NOT dispute if you actually used our music (disputes escalate to strikes)

Scenario 2: Manual Copyright Strike

We issue manual strikes for:
  • Repeated Content ID violations
  • Refusing to remove content after notice
  • Commercial use without authorization
  • Falsely disputing legitimate Content ID claims
Process:
  1. Strike issued – Video immediately removed
  1. Channel penalties – Upload freeze and feature restrictions
  1. Counter-notification option – Only if you have legitimate authorization (we will escalate to legal action for false counter-claims)
Important: Three strikes = permanent channel termination. YouTube does not reverse this.

Scenario 3: Legal Takedown (DMCA)

For serious violations:
  • We file formal DMCA takedown notices
  • Legal record created
  • Potential for lawsuit if systematic infringement
 

III. Prohibited uses on YouTube

You CANNOT use Mahakatha's music for:

❌ AI-generated content using our melodies or compositions

❌ "Slowed + reverb" or remixed versions
❌ Re-uploads or reposts of our official content
❌ Any commercial or monetized use without license
 
Even if you:
  • Give us credit in the description
  • Link to our channel
  • Claim "fair use" or "educational purposes"
  • Mark video as non-commercial
  • Use only 30 seconds
None of these grant permission. Authorization required for ALL uses.
 

IV. If you receive a claim or strike

If You Get a Content ID Claim

Step 1: Verify the claim is legitimate
  • Review the claimed audio segment
Step 2: If legitimate:
  • Remove the video immediately, or
  • Replace the audio with authorized music, or
  • Accept the claim (video stays up, we collect revenue)
Step 3: DO NOT:
  • Dispute if you actually used our music
  • Re-upload the same video
  • Trim the audio and re-upload (still detectable)

If You Get a Copyright Strike:

Immediate Actions:
  1. Do not panic – One strike won't terminate your channel
  1. Remove all other videos using Mahakatha's music immediately
  1. Email us at copyright { @ } mahakatha { . } com with:
      • Confirmation of removals
      • Acknowledgment of infringement
      • Commitment to non-repetition
What NOT to Do:
  • File a counter-notification unless you have written authorization from us (false counter-claims result in legal action)
  • Re-upload similar content
  • Create new channels to evade strikes (YouTube detects and terminates associated accounts)
Strike Removal:
  • Strikes expire after 90 days
  • We may retract strikes for good faith compliance and demonstrated remorse
  • Repeat offenders will not receive leniency
 

V. How to use Mahakatha's music legally on YouTube

Option 1: Use Our Official Content

What You CAN Do:
  • Share links to our official YouTube channel
  • Embed our official videos in playlists
  • Promote our official content (no downloading/re-uploading)
This is free and requires no permission.

Option 2: Request a License

For legitimate projects requiring use of our audio:

VII. Appeals & disputes

Believe Your Content Was Wrongly Claimed?

Before disputing:

  • Check all audio sources (background music, samples, stock music that may contain our work)
  • Verify with your video editor or audio provider
 
If you're certain it's an error:

  • Video URL
  • Audio analysis showing your audio source
  • Proof of independent creation or authorized license
We will review and release false claims promptly.
WARNING: Falsely disputing legitimate claims escalates to manual copyright strikes and legal action.
 

VIII. YouTube's policies (not ours)

Important Distinctions

What YouTube Allows:
  • Fair use (limited, specific circumstances - rare in music)
  • Authorized Creative Commons content
  • Royalty-free music
  • Licensed content
What YouTube Does NOT Allow:
  • Using copyrighted music without permission
  • Claiming "fair use" for full-track background music
  • "Giving credit" as substitute for authorization

IX. Consequences of non-compliance

Platform-Level:
  • Content ID claims (revenue loss)

  • Permanent ban from YouTube
Legal Consequences:
  • DMCA violations on legal record
  • Civil lawsuits for damages
  • Statutory damages under U.S. law ($750-$150,000 per work)
  • Criminal penalties under Indian law (6 months - 3 years imprisonment, ₹50,000-₹2,00,000 fine)

TO YOUTUBE CREATORS
