History of the Mantra
Sage Patanjali is believed to be an incarnation of Adishesha, a serpent with a thousand heads.
Usually, the number thousand is a representation of infinity in ancient scriptures. A serpent is a symbol of strength.
Patanjali is considered as a sage with unlimited strength and knowledge. And the Yogena Chittasya mantra is the invocation of all his powers.
Because of his powers, it is believed that Patanjali lived for eight centuries.
He was known for encoding the Yoga Sutras from which the modern practice of yoga is derived. Patanjali's work is found in around 200 aphorisms in the Yoga Sutra.
