History of the Mantra
Guru literally translates to teacher. Guru is made of two root words/sounds in Sanskrit. 'Gu' means darkness and 'Ru' means remover. So a guru means remover of darkness.
This darkness can be interpreted as a lack of awareness, knowledge, or consciousness. And a Guru dispels this darkness by bestowing knowledge and wisdom.
The Guru Yoga mantra allows yoga practitioners to submit to the Trimurti as a disciple submits to his/her guru. The mantra enhances your capability to learn and improves discipline.
