History of the Mantra

The Sukhakarta Dukhaharta aarti is one of the most beloved Marathi hymns dedicated to Lord Ganesha, widely attributed to the saint-poet Samarth Ramdas in the 17th century.
It celebrates Ganesha as the bringer of happiness (Sukhakarta) and remover of sorrow (Dukhaharta), a divine force who clears life’s obstacles and grants mental peace.
The line darshanamatre manakamana purati (with just a glimpse, our wishes are fulfilled) reflects the deeply held belief that a single darshan (vision) of Ganesha, especially during Ganesh Chaturthi or temple visits, can ease suffering and restore hope.
In myth, even Lord Shiva blessed Ganesha with the power to be worshipped first among all deities.
This aarti, often sung at the conclusion of rituals, resonates with centuries of devotion, calling upon Ganesha’s grace to purify the mind and uplift the spirit.
